I love Ophelia. One can't help but wish that she'd tell her overbearing family to get lost, tell Hamlet to go screw something appropriate until he can get his act together and then go start running self-empowerment classes for women. Of course she never will and the sense of tragedy about her (and her lilting insanity) keeps us coming back. In one production she was on stage in almost every scene but they simply ignore her or talk about her as though she isn't there.
