The Borough Markets

These have been around since the 11th century! *g* they have a write up on them within the Globe Exhibition Hall. I hadn't really realized they were a big landmark until after I'd discovered them and wandered around. They're down near the Thames and Clink Prison (been there too but couldn't be bothered paying to go inside to their little museum). They used to be set up on one of the bridges but that caused a lot of congestion so they got moved to their present location ages back and now just sell food and produce instead of live cattle too (too messy). So I wandered around the fruit stalls and picked up some yummy grapes. The shops along there are all specialty stores too. One just makes cheese! You can see the cheese on the shelves aging or maturing or ripening or whatever it is exactly that cheese does. Another cafe made bread and you could buy coffee then pay to sit on their couches and eat as much bread and jam as you could.
